Modern Motion Projects
Modern Motion is a startup from Austin, Texas that works on the "heavy lifting" of the modern smart home by creating novel moving mechanisms inside homes. I worked at Modern Motion as a Mechanical Engineering Intern during the summers of 2020 and 2021, where I worked on several projects. In each of these projects, I was an integral part of the small design team, and then got to manufacture and build prototypes of the products I helped design. Check out their products at https://www.modernmotion.com/.

Custom staircase with moving stairs allow for customers to go upstairs without taking a step, while maintaining the look of a normal staircase
-
Designed 12ft tall steel frame for initial stair prototype testing and trade show demonstration
-
Manufactured components for prototype stairs including machining and welding
-
Worked with first design team, designed lead screw mechanism on first iteration prototype
Venus
-
Jewlery/file floor safe that rises up out of countertop when needed, and sinks to protect contents from fires, flooding, or theft. Based off existing Vulcan full-size articulating floor safe.
-
Lead designer for all components including linear motion system, frame, and ensuring serviceabilty
-
Ran simulations to ensure product would not only be safe and rigid, but would have a quality feel and not deflect when a customer pushes on it
-
Product still in development
